Llandudno and the surrounding area: History and Culture
Thank you so much for making a special weekend extra special. We will definitely be back. Andy and Hilary, Shropshire
Llandudno is an elegant resort, its stylish architecture and traditional seaside entertainment a legacy of the Victorian era, during which time the town was carefully planned and laid out. Llandudno has a rich and interesting heritage dating back to the Stone Age, includes the Bronze Age, the Suffragettes, Alice in Wonderland and as a hub of communications during the World War. Until the 1840's the area's fortunes rested on agriculture and copper mining, but this changed as a result of a vision to transform the village into a grand seaside resort. website link
It is still possible to walk along the old town's wide streets and admire the elegant Victorian and Edwardian buildings. The Victorian Pier and promenade are as popular as ever. The main shopping area of Mostyn Street has a variety of local shops as well as high street names located under Victorian verandahs. All this mixed with top restaurants, pubs, award winning fish and chip shops and welcoming cafes truly makes Llandudno still the Queen of Welsh resorts. website link. Llandudno is an ideal base for exploring Snowdonia, Angelsey and the rest of North Wales. Whether it is strolling along the prom, gazing out from castle turrets, eating local mussels, enjoying a concert or climbing mountains, Llandudno, The Queen of Welsh Resorts, Conwy and the surrounding area has it all. Not only do have have more than our fair share of castles we have waterfalls in abudnance and some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. Driving along secluded lanes and narrow mountain tracks, leaving the car to explore bridleways and foothpaths hundred of years old - step back in time and one can imagine great Welsh warriors like Llewellyn Mawr and Owain Glyn Dwr thundering down the mountains and across the valleys in landscapes than remain naturally beautiful and unchanged today....... wizards, witches, giants, dragons, fairies and folklore - we have it all....
